NySoace is a great networking tool. Other wise post stuff on Youtube.com. There was a girl that posted herself singing once a week, a new song every week, and she got the attention of record execs for doing this. So, get your name out there as much as you can. Other than myspace, just go on a lot of threads and networking sites. I think there are some music sites like purevolume that you could join.

Make sure that you have songs up on the sites and that you respond to "fans" or criticism people leave up there or else they'll never come back.

I would start inviting known bands/artists to your myspace website %26amp; join theirs. Depending what kind of music you play, I'd look for websites which focus on your type of music %26amp; which have forums. Promote your band there %26amp; invite people to your gigs.

I'd also start playing more locally %26amp; getting more well known. Really focus on what makes your band stand out from the rest. Take out advertisements if you have to. Print up flyers %26amp; hand them out.

I would highly recommend purchasing the e-book "The Indie Bible". It has too many rescources to name here on places that you can advertise your music, radio stations and magazines that accept unsigned talent, and many other places to get you on your way.

As for getting recognized?

There is only one way to have it happen:

WORK YOUR TAIL OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over my lifetime, I was able to ferret 4 recording contracts out of the powers that be, and the ONLY reason I was able to do so is because I busted my backside (all of the band members did) promoting the band. The last band I was in that was an original project, I was able to get label interest from 6 separate labels (although we broke up before anything happened). The way I was able to do so, is that I spent 2-3 hours a night on the copmputer contacting the magazines, web-sites, e-zines, radio stations, management companies, fans, link exchanges, other bands, booking compnaies, record companies, etc and getting the word out.

IF you do whatever it takes to "make it" and continue to do whatever it takes, and then keep doing what it takes after you have failed at it, you will eventually get to a certain level of acheivement... although, I strongly caution you against wishing... many times you get what you asked for, and not what you wanted.
