Radiohead is number one in my mind...even though they've been around for about 15 years they are still making amazing, innovative, and modern music.

Also in the past two years there has been an emergence of really amazing indie/alternative bands such as Arcade Fire, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Tokyo Police Club. They keep pretty under the radar though as far as being commercialized goes but they are still really popular.

Built to Spill, Modest Mouse and TV on the Radio are other great current bands.
